Former Star Wars director thriller could win sequel

Star Wars writer and director: The Last Jedi Rian Johnson is working on a roadmap for the potential between Knives and Secrets 2. Even before Between Knives and Secrets hits theaters, the former Star Wars director's suspense had received many compliments.

This is due in part to the fact that he participated in many film festivals in 2019, and early reviews praised Knives and Secrets as one of the most entertaining films of the year. After Between Knives and Secrets was officially released, talk about the suspense grew even bigger as casual viewers were entertained by the former Star Wars director's update on the murder mystery genre.

Between Knives and Secrets introduces viewers to private investigator Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), who was commissioned to investigate the mysterious death of rich novel writer Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer). The cast is packed full of celebrities such as Chris Evans, Ana de Armas and Jamie Lee Curtis.

But of course, with the mystery of Harlan's death over at the end of Between Knives and Secrets, it's Craig Blanc who will lead a sequel. In fact, before this movie was released, Johnson said he would love to do a sequel between Knives and Secrets with Craig returning as Blanc.

Now it looks like he'll start working on the script for this movie very soon, if he hasn't already.

According to Roger Friedman's Showbiz 411, Johnson was hired to write a sequel to Knives and Secrets, but will not continue the stories of Marta and Thrombey. Instead, the sequel will have new characters and a new mystery for Detective Benoit Blanc to solve.

Since Between Knives and Secrets and Blanc were inspired by Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot, it makes sense that the sequel focuses on the detective and a new mystery.

So far, Between Knives and Secrets has grossed over $ 200 million at the box office, with a budget of just $ 40 million, making it an undeniable success. Given this success, it's no wonder Lionsgate wants to turn Knives and Secrets into a franchise, especially with a star like Daniel Craig at the center who will be completing his career as James Bond in No Time to Die.

Still, even though Johnson's movie is full of stars, they are just one of the reasons why the thriller became a hit. Between Knives and Secrets is a rare combination of talented performances, clever script, classic cinema and genuine entertainment that has impressed audiences worldwide.

Some argue that the great success of Knives and Secrets is a lightning bolt that cannot fall in one place twice. Certainly, Hollywood is plagued by disappointing sequences.

It is also true that Johnson never made a sequel to one of his original designs. That said, the filmmaker certainly has franchise experience, having made Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Lucasfilm even hired Johnson to write and direct its own Star Wars trilogy. While this movie series is apparently no longer in development, fans of Between Knives and Secrets would like to see your approach to a sequel.

With only Benoit Blanc returning, a possible Between Knives and Secrets 2 could satisfy fans of the first, while Johnson offers a compelling addition to his own series of murder mystery films. Of course, Johnson is still in the early stages of sequence development, so fans will have to wait and see what happens between Knives and Secrets 2.

Between Knives and Secrets premiered in Brazilian theaters on December 5, 2019.
