The Witcher's Showrruner Highlights Series Differences with Game of Thrones (Source: Netflix)
After The Witcher's debut, several people began comparing the series with the already finalized Game of Thrones. In response, during an interview with the Varietyshowrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich highlighted where her production differs from others using the same theme.
“If you compare, any medieval series or movie will have similarities. But comedy is what sets The Witcher apart from other fantastic series, such as Game of Thrones. Andrzej Sapkowski (author of the books) is Polish, and he was telling me a lot about his childhood in Poland amid political conflicts… He said to me: ‘How do people deal with tragedy? They laugh '. Bringing this comic tone into a medieval fantasy series is something that has not yet been done. It was really important for me to keep that up, and I hope the fans enjoy it, ”said the producer.

Hissrich also commented that he avoided using violence and nudity in the series, using only at crucial moments. “Personally, I go crazy if there's violence and free nudity just to shock the public. Before shooting such a scene, you need to create context and understand why such characters are naked and what that says about them. I hope that in every situation the public thinks I understand. ”
Finally, she comments on the relationship of the narrative with the fans. “Before I started, I wanted to have a talk with the fans. I introduced myself on Twitter saying who I was and what I was doing. I got all sorts of reactions, good and bad, but it was mine. I want people to know is that I love this franchise, but that doesn't mean that I will do everything the fans want me to do. They just need to know that I'm trying to honor the source material, because I love it too. ”
